Numbers, time, dates
1 / 2–4 / 5+ decides the noun. Then the same rule runs age (год / года / лет), clock time, в пятницу, and через час. Each lesson: How it works → Tables → Notes → Exceptions → Examples.

Один, два, пять
After a number, the noun’s case is not «always genitive». 1 takes nominative singular, 2–4 take genitive singular, 5+ take genitive plural — and teens 11–14 break the last-digit rule.

Age
Возраст
Age uses dative of the person + год / года / лет. The 1 / 2–4 / 5+ rule decides which of those three you pick.

Clock time
Который час
Telling the hour reuses 1 / 2–4 / 5+ on час. «At» a time is в + accusative: в час, в два часа, в пять часов. Half and quarter have their own set phrases.
Lesson 4
Days and dates
Дни и даты
On a weekday is в + accusative: в пятницу. In a month is в + prepositional: в августе. A calendar date puts the ordinal in genitive: пятого мая.
Lesson 5
Through, ago, until
Через / назад
How far from now: через час (in an hour), час назад (an hour ago). The number still picks час / часа / часов, день / дня / дней, минута / минуты / минут.
